The story

AGOS Restaurant Budapest | Modern Hungarian-Mediterranean Dining

The Kitchen and Philosophy

AGOS Restaurant in Budapest presents a thoughtful modern Hungarian-Mediterranean cuisine that balances seasonal produce with regional heritage. Executive Chef Attila Feher builds every plate around fresh ingredients and straightforward techniques, deliberately avoiding unnecessary complexity. This grounded approach earned the kitchen a solid 14.5 rating from Gault&Millau for 2026. Guests can expect daily menus that shift with availability while maintaining a consistent focus on quality.

Signature Plates and Pairings

The kitchen frequently transforms humble vegetables into layered compositions within this broader Hungarian-Mediterranean cooking tradition, as seen in the pumpkin gnocchi layered with seared cubes, marinated ribbons, toasted seeds, and pressed oil. Heartier selections include a slowly braised lamb shank and a substantial venison Wellington designed for sharing between two diners. Early courses often arrive under smoked glass cloches that lift to reveal delicate tuna slices dressed with caper blossoms. Each dish pairs naturally with cellar selections ranging from Tokaj whites to Tuscan reds.

Architecture and Setting

The dining room occupies a former Radetzky Barracks site along Bem Square, where architects preserved the original Danube-facing stone façade while constructing a contemporary interior behind it. Dutch designer Marcel Wanders shaped the space around the Hungarian legend of the wonder stag, translating folklore into sweeping wooden forms and dramatic sightlines. One monumental table begins indoors and appears to burst through the window, continuing directly onto the terrace. Upstairs, the feNNen skybar provides a quieter vantage point for evening drinks and cocktails.
