The story

Alelí Budapest – Italian Osteria by Dani García in the Heart of Budapest

Alelí Budapest

In the Dorothea Hotel, steps from the city’s grand boulevards, Alelí brings a slice of Italy to Budapest. This is not a formal fine-dining room but a genuine Italian osteria, where the warmth of la dolce vita meets the precision of a kitchen led by a three-Michelin-starred chef.

The restaurant is part of Grupo Dani García, the vision of the Marbella-born chef whose eponymous restaurant earned three Michelin stars in 2019. At Alelí, García’s inspiration and recipes are the foundation, but the daily rhythm is set by head chef Giorgio Cavicchiolo. An Italian-born chef respected in Budapest’s professional circles, Cavicchiolo embodies the spirit of Italian cooking: cooking with heart, a deep connection to people, and a profound respect for ingredients.

That commitment to quality is tangible in every dish. The kitchen sources ingredients directly from Italy — Parma salumi, Bologna cheeses, and wines from the south — to create an authentic Mediterranean experience. The menu is conceived as a journey, inviting guests to taste the distinct regions of Piedmont, Lombardy, Lazio, Campania, and Sicily through a single meal.

The atmosphere is family-like and welcoming, with a vibrant energy that makes it equally suited for an intimate dinner, a celebration with friends, or a relaxed business gathering. The space itself, located in the fifth district, feels both exclusive and immediately comfortable — a place where guests feel at home.

Alelí’s recognition as a Michelin Recommended restaurant in 2026 speaks to the consistency of its vision: a restaurant that honors the soul of Italian cuisine while operating at the highest level of hospitality. It is, above all, a place where the dolce vita is not a slogan but a reality felt in every bite and every gesture.

What could enhance the prestige of the Budapest scene more than a world-renowned chef like Dani García opening his second restaurant in the city? His first, Alelí Budapest, set the stage. The world-class chef handpicks his teams with an astute eye, and here his first key signing was Giorgio Cavicchiolo, who arrived from one of the country’s finest Italian restaurants, bringing not only expertise in Italian cuisine but also in-depth local knowledge. The spacious downtown restaurant is a visual feast. Within the historic walls, a glass partition reveals a pizza oven, making it clear that Italian cuisine rules the roost here. We would define Alelí with an unusual term: a fine trattoria—familiar, beloved Italian flavours executed to an exceptionally high standard. Tableside preparations further elevate the atmosphere. Even the simplest appetiser, the focaccia, bears the chef’s signature, and the kitchen showcases the finest expressions of Italian comfort dishes—gnocchi, classic cacio e pepe spaghetti, or tiramisù. The Neapolitan pizzas, made from dough proofed for 48 hours, are a highlight, while the Lángos Montanara, blending Italian and Hungarian traditions, has already become an iconic dish. Alongside top-tier Mediterranean ingredients, select local products also feature. The extensive wine list balances the Italian-Hungarian axis beautifully while also featuring some of the finest bottles from around the world. The champagne selection is outstanding, as is the range of wines available by the glass. Alelí is living proof that a trattoria can reach world-class heights.
