The story

Arquitecto PitPit in Budapest: Award-Winning Spanish Tapas in a Historic Courtyard

The kitchen and its inspirations

Arquitecto PitPit channels the vibrant spirit of Spanish tapas bars into Budapest, a project rooted in the Beck and Farkas families' devotion to Iberian flavors and executed by head chef Kiss László, whose culinary approach has drawn attention from Gault&Millau. The space opened in July 2022 within a listed building that also hosts the Hungarian Association of Architectural Artists. That architectural lineage inspired the name, complemented by the street's reference to the lark, which becomes pitpit in Spanish. Each plate bridges the gap between tapas and main courses, focusing on robust flavor rather than composition, and every dish credits a specific Spanish restaurant that sparked its creation.

The courtyard and vaulted interior

An ivy-draped courtyard brings the relaxed atmosphere of a Spanish neighborhood to Budapest. Inside the vaulted basement, a curved bar rests below hand-painted murals and curated artworks illuminated by deliberate fixtures. Functional details like simple napkin holders and stylish seating ground the aesthetic, supporting a lively environment built around the joy of sharing plates.

Standings and shared plates

Gambas pil-pil demonstrates the kitchen's precision. Shrimp rest in garlic-chili olive oil, delivering a sharp result that balances heat and aroma. Black lentil tabouli introduces earthy tones, while deep-fried potato dumplings filled with spicy veal ragout provide substance. Grilled octopus over squid ink rice rounds out the selection, keeping the focus squarely on Spanish cuisine and communal dining.
