The story
Szaletly Vendéglő és Kert is a bright restaurant and garden at the entrance of Zugló, designed to make every guest feel at home. The building has been a hospitality venue since 1907. Today, it is run by three friends – Szabó Dániel, Nikoletti Petra, and Szalontay Tamás – together with chef Bernát Dániel and manager Forgó Zsolt.
Chef Bernát Dániel sources ingredients from Hungarian producers with great care, treating them gently to let their quality shine. The kitchen focuses on freshness, seasonality, environmental awareness, and a modern take on tradition. The result is modern Hungarian cuisine that stays true to familiar flavours while feeling lighter and contemporary.
In 2026, Szaletly received a Michelin Recommended award, a nod to its consistent cooking and inviting atmosphere. The recognition fits a restaurant that balances ambition with accessibility.
The menu changes with the seasons. From the chef’s offer, highlights include asparagus panna cotta with Swiss chard, Gesztelyi Mangalica meatloaf with creamed spinach, and Őrség cottage cheese dumplings with pumpkin seeds and sea buckthorn jam. For a broader experience, the five-course tasting menu – available with or without wine pairing – gives a snapshot of the kitchen’s current direction. A vegetarian tasting menu is also offered.
A Hungarian Dining Guide critic wrote: “I can’t remember when I last ate such good Hungarian food in a restaurant – one that truly brought home flavours and traditions, lightly and easily, the way we would want to taste the iconic dishes of our childhood today.”
The relaxed terrace and interior make Szaletly a natural choice for lunch or dinner, with special events held throughout the year.
