The story

Zazie Bistro Budapest – Michelin-Recommended Hungarian Bistro with Danube Views

A New Chapter for Zazie Bistro

In the MOL Campus, Budapest’s soaring glass tower on the banks of the Danube, Zazie Bistro & Bar has carved out its own relaxed identity. Since spring 2026, the kitchen is led by Lendvai Levente – executive chef of the fine-dining Virtu Restaurant in the same building – and Haraszti Zsolt as head chef. Their vision is clear: comfort food elevated to the highest standard, rooted in Hungarian cuisine but open to global influences. “The Zazie is a creative space where comfort food can represent top quality,” Lendvai says.

The restaurant’s Michelin‑Recommended badge (2025, renewed 2026) and Gault&Millau’s two toques (2026) reflect that ambition. The team changes the chef’s menu monthly, built around seasonal Hungarian ingredients, and adds a weekly rotating dish at an accessible price. The à la carte menu stays true to the bistro ethos: hearty, honest plates with a modern touch.

Atmosphere and Setting

Zazie’s interior has won international awards for its design, and the space feels both vibrant and welcoming. In warmer months, the terrace opens onto the Kopaszi‑öböl, a quiet inlet of the Danube, giving diners a sense of escape from the city. The cocktail bar adds another layer: signature drinks like the Little Red Negroni or Zazie Garden are as Instagram‑worthy as they are well‑made.

A Hub for Locals and Visitors

Beyond the restaurant, Zazie runs a loyalty app, offers delivery via Wolt across Budapest, and hosts events. The kitchen’s focus on Hungarian cuisine with a creative, international twist – from comfort classics to the monthly chef’s specials – keeps the experience fresh. Whether you come for a family lunch, a casual dinner, or a cocktail after work, the atmosphere is easygoing, the food precise, and the Danube views always part of the show.

Zazie is special in just about every way. Tucked away from the buzz of central Újbuda, it sits on the ground floor of the MOL Campus. A spot mostly discovered by nearby office workers and residents of the new housing developments around Kopaszi dike. Despite the corporate surroundings, the vibe is far from cold or sterile. Think lush greenery, soft natural colours, flowing rounded shapes. The black industrial ceiling is immediately softened by a pile of fresh fruit on the front counter, setting the tone right as you walk in. Cozy booths, rattan furniture, and oversized woven lampshades give the space a warm, inviting feel, a total contrast to the high-rise setting. The place is impressively versatile. They open early – breakfast starts at 7:30 AM – and their business lunch quickly became a local favourite. They really thought things through from the guest's perspective: a multi-course lunch served in 40 minutes, at a price that is surprisingly friendly for Zazie’s quality. Same goes for the salads and sandwiches at the counter: fresh, quick, and good value. The à la carte menu is bold and full of energy, crossing borders with confidence. Classic beef broth gets a twist with ginger gel inspired by Asian flavours, and they are not afraid to reverse the playbook either: when we visited, the rib-eye came with a Hungarian-style savoy cabbage and potato stew. Service is just as fast outside of lunch hours too, our 3-course meal did not take more than an hour. The wine list is sharp and curated, while the spirits and cocktails selection is top-notch, truly living up to the “bar” in the name. Since our visit, a new head chef, Tamás Nagy, has taken the reins. Zazie feels vibrant and youthful, and its kitchen definitely deserves to be discovered by all of Újbuda.
