The story
On Hverfisgata in central Reykjavík, OTO brings together precise technique and bold, layered flavours. The kitchen draws inspiration from Japanese culinary traditions – yakitori, omakase, kaiseki – while working with high-quality Icelandic and international ingredients. The result is a menu that feels both grounded and adventurous.
OTO’s menu is built around small plates, yakitori skewers, and larger courses. Starters include crispy nori with dashi and sesame, and a smoked trout spread with roe and chives. The yakitori section features Iberico pork with leek and sesame, chicken thigh with Sichuan pepper, and tiger prawns with chili, garlic, and yuzu. Larger dishes range from miso cod with chanterelles and bok choy to a 300g rib eye with chestnut mushrooms and oxtail ponzu.
For those who want the full experience, OTO offers three tasting menus: Omakase, Kaiseki, and Miyabi – each available only for the whole table. Wine pairing is also an option, with a deep list spanning Champagne, sake, and wines from France, Italy, and beyond. The cocktail menu is equally considered, with drinks like the Karai Amai (tequila, sake, plum, togarashi, yuzu) and the Negroni della Vita (pink gin, Campari, sakura).
OTO is marked as vegan-friendly, with several dishes clearly labelled as vegan or vegan-possible, including a tofu and sesame spread and grilled shiitake with chawanmushi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible and air-conditioned, making it a comfortable choice for a wide range of diners.
In 2026, OTO was recognised with a Michelin Recommended award, a testament to its careful cooking, thoughtful ingredient sourcing, and the quiet confidence of its modern cuisine. It’s a place that earns its place on any Reykjavík food itinerary.
