The story
Inside a pretty thatched cottage on Main Street, 1826 Adare is a family-run restaurant that has become a destination for modern cuisine in County Limerick. The husband-and-wife team of Wade and Elaine Murphy opened the doors in 2013, bringing together Wade’s considerable culinary experience — honed in London, Chicago, and New York — with Elaine’s international background in hospitality management.
The atmosphere is warm and unfussy, with a cosy interior that matches the picture-postcard setting of Adare village. Seasonal local produce drives the kitchen, with menus that change monthly and daily blackboard specials. Recent dishes from the dinner menu include a Pan Fried Black Sole with Jerusalem artichoke and brown shrimp, a 12-hour Braised Beef Shortrib with pearl onion and horseradish, and a vegetarian Red Lentil & Wild Mushroom Bolognese served with vegan pasta. A Sunday late lunch menu offers three courses for €36.95, featuring options like a Fish Pie or Shredded Beef & Caramelised Onion Pie.
The restaurant’s commitment to cooking with excellent Irish ingredients has earned it consistent recognition, including a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide for Great Britain & Ireland. In the 2026 edition, it continues to hold a Michelin Recommended distinction, placing it among Ireland’s most notable independent dining rooms.
