The story
Since opening in 2015, Bastible has become a defining presence in Dublin's dining scene. Located on South Circular Road in the vibrant Portobello area, it is a true neighbourhood restaurant—one where clean, simple decor and relaxed, professional service allow the food to take centre stage. Under the guidance of chef Killian Walsh, the kitchen delivers sophisticated Modern Cuisine that has earned the restaurant a Michelin star, first awarded in 2022 and proudly retained ever since.
Bastible’s set menu changes with the seasons, but the cooking is consistently precise and ingredient-led. A sample dinner menu might open with seeded sourdough and cultured butter, followed by razor clam with grapefruit and horseradish, or a smoked haddock tartlet with potato and dill. Scallops with salsify, verjus, and raisin lead into cod with liquorice, hibiscus, and kohlrabi. Heartier plates include Coolattin custard with sweetcorn and smoked bone marrow, and dry-aged beef with Castleruddery farm vegetables and red wine. Dessert could be stem ginger with Jerusalem artichoke, pear, and yuzu, finished with petit fours. The set dinner menu is €110, with a wine pairing for €80.
On Saturdays, a three-course lunch menu is available for €75 (wine pairing €60), offering a lighter but equally considered introduction to the kitchen’s style. Vegetarian and pescatarian diets can be accommodated with advance notice.
Bastible is open Wednesday to Friday for dinner from 17:30, and Saturday for both lunch (from 13:00) and dinner. Weekend reservations are best made ahead, though midweek tables and counter seats are often available at the last minute. The atmosphere is understated and welcoming—a space where the quality of the cooking speaks for itself, supported by attentive, unhurried service.
