The story
Delahunt occupies a historic Victorian building on Dublin’s Camden Street, once a high-end purveyor of groceries and provisions. The team spent 18 months restoring the space with meticulous attention to detail, bringing it back to its former glory. During the works, the original 1906 shop sign was discovered and is now displayed inside. The long bar runs down the centre, shelves are lined with spirits, bacon bars hang from the ceiling, and the original cash desk has been transformed into a snug. James Joyce even referenced the original Delahunt in Ulysses – a detail that grounds the restaurant in Dublin’s literary and culinary history.
Head Chef Dermot Staunton has been at Delahunt since opening day. He brings experience from some of Dublin’s finest kitchens, including Locks Brasserie, Venu, Town Bar and Grill, and Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud. His passion lies in producing almost every element in-house, from Guinness bread to signature home-smoked salmon. The menu is focused: four starters, four mains, four desserts – allowing the team to work with the best seasonal, local produce and traditional techniques like home curing, slow braises, savoury puddings, and preserves.
In less than a year, Delahunt earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2016. The recognition has continued: the restaurant is now Michelin Recommended for 2026, a testament to the consistency and quality of its modern Irish cuisine. The award reflects the kitchen’s commitment to championing small local producers and delivering food that is both rooted in tradition and refreshingly contemporary.
The ground floor dining room is welcoming, with high tables for walk-ins and a relaxed vibe. Upstairs, the first-floor cocktail bar, known as the Sitting Room, occupies the former “good room” of the family who lived at number 39. It features a striking bay window, vaulted ceilings, retro furniture, original fireplaces, and a wide range of spirits. For private events, there is a snug for six to ten guests, a heated internal courtyard for up to twenty diners, and a window seat for two. The entire venue can also be hired.
Delahunt offers lunch Tuesday to Saturday and dinner Tuesday to Saturday, with an A La Carte menu for parties up to ten. Dietary requirements are accommodated with notice. The cocktail bar is open to all from 5pm.
