The story
In the heart of Dublin, on South Great George's Street, Kicky's brings together some of the city's most seasoned hospitality professionals. The kitchen is led by Chef and Co-owner Eric Matthews, a Dubliner whose career has taken him through Michelin-starred kitchens including The Square and The Fat Duck in London, and Guillaume at Bennelong in Sydney. Most recently, he held the position of Head Chef at Dublin’s Michelin-starred Chapter One for five years.
Alongside him, Co-owner Richie Barrett, who cut his teeth at notable Dublin spots like Etto and BANG, brings a deep understanding of wine and service. Together, they have created a space that balances ambition with genuine warmth.
The cooking here is described as Mediterranean-inspired, with a focus on food cooked over fire and hand-rolled pastas. The team sources the finest Irish ingredients, and the menu changes daily based on what is freshest from their suppliers. A Taste of Kicky's menu is available for both lunch and dinner, offering a curated selection of their cooking. It might begin with a 72-hour potato focaccia with carbonara butter, followed by starters such as Cacio e Pepe or a rabbit bolognese with aged Parmesan. Mains could include Red Mullet with lobster and datterini tomato, or a Hannan 40-day aged 'Mighty Marbled' Striploin with Garryhinch mushrooms.
The restaurant has quickly earned recognition, being named in the Michelin Guide for 2026. It was also named one of the 100 Best Restaurants in Ireland by The Times, and received multiple nominations at the Irish Restaurant Awards, including Best Customer Service and Best Chef Dublin.
Kicky’s is open for dinner Monday through Saturday, and for lunch Thursday through Saturday. The atmosphere, overseen by General Manager Shane Gormley, is kept lively and welcoming, with a focus on excellent service and the right soundtrack.
