The story
In the heart of Dublin’s Rathgar, Orwell Road delivers the kind of cooking that feels both relaxed and exacting. The team describes it as a casual neighbourhood restaurant with “all the love, effort, and attention to detail you would expect in a fine dining restaurant” – and the Michelin Guide agrees, awarding it a Recommended spot in 2026.
Head chef Leticia Miranda guides a kitchen that prizes local, Irish ingredients and sustainable sourcing. The team’s single rule: “everything must be delicious.” That ethos extends from the produce to the plate, with suppliers chosen for their care and quality. Dishes such as Mooncoin beetroot with St Tola and blackberry hoisin, or Kilkee crab with fennel, apple, cucumber and brioche, show a Modern Cuisine that respects its raw materials without fuss. The menu also offers a neighbourhood option, reflecting the restaurant’s commitment to being a community space.
Orwell Road is part of the Bereen brothers’ family of Dublin restaurants, known for Coppinger Row and Charlotte Quay. The brothers bring decades of experience in front-of-house and design, creating spaces with personality. The restaurant’s hard work was recognised early: Irish Restaurant Awards named it ‘Newcomer of the Year’ in 2022, and head chef Daniel Hannigan was named ‘Young Chef of the Year’ that same year. The whole team’s collaborative spirit – from kitchen to front of house – is essential to the atmosphere they build. Counter dining is available, and the cocktail list (including a Celery Gimlet and Roselle Cocktail) complements the International menu. Whether it’s a seared scallop starter or a JJ young Côte de boeuf to share, Orwell Road delivers modern cooking that feels both ambitious and approachable.
