The story
Since opening in 2009, Pichet has become a fixture on Dublin’s Trinity Street, earning a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its consistent, good-value cooking. The restaurant describes itself as a modern take on a classic bistro, and it shows in the details: red signs, striped canopies, and checkerboard flooring set the scene for a meal that balances French technique with Irish ingredients.
Head Chef Harry Quinn brings a pedigree shaped in Michelin-starred kitchens. After a formative stage at Le Mas Candilles in the south of France, he spent a year at Jason Atherton’s Pollen Street Social in London. At Pichet, he works alongside chef-owner Steve Gibson, focusing on seasonal produce and precise cooking. Quinn’s goal, as he puts it, is “to create and cook delicious, exciting, seasonal food within a positive atmosphere.”
The menu changes regularly to reflect what’s fresh. A summer lunch might start with Cod and Chorizo Croquettes or John Stone Beef Tartare with black garlic, followed by Glazed Lamb Shoulder with whipped goat cheese or Parmesan Agnolotti with roasted Jerusalem artichoke and basil-hazelnut pesto. In winter, dishes like Teriyaki Cured Torched Organic Salmon and Barbary Duck Breast appear, alongside comforting Knockanore Cheese Agnolotti. The kitchen bakes its own bread daily and butchers meat in-house.
Pichet also runs a “Friends of Pichet” series, hosting guest chefs such as JP McMahon of Michelin-starred Aniar and Liam Finnegan of Ashford Castle for collaborative tasting menus.
The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious. Whether you’re at the bar for snacks and a cocktail or in the main dining room for a full dinner, the service is attentive without being stiff. It’s a place that suits a business lunch, a celebratory dinner, or simply a reliable meal in the city centre.
For sixteen consecutive years, the Michelin Bib Gourmand has recognised Pichet as a restaurant where you can eat well without extravagance. That consistency, paired with Quinn’s contemporary French-Irish cooking, makes it one of Dublin’s most dependable dining destinations.
