The story
Max’s in Kinsale is a quaint, social restaurant on the main street of this West Cork town. Owner-run by Anne Marie (front of house) and her husband, head chef Olivier Queva, who has been at the stove since 1999, the restaurant has earned a Michelin Recommended status for 2026. The atmosphere is lively, the service friendly and professional, and the focus is squarely on the best of the Irish coast.
Max’s is well known for its large selection of local Kinsale fresh seafood, married with Olivier’s fine creative sauces. The daily fish selection is offered as specials, and the menu changes with the seasons. During summer, the two-course menu highlights what the waters around West Cork provide. In November, the kitchen switches focus to wild game dishes, showcasing Olivier’s French flair and creativity. The restaurant also stocks a comprehensive list of personally selected wines, updated monthly, with an excellent selection by the glass, including fine, natural, and organic options.
The cooking is classic French cuisine with an Irish twist, a concise menu crafted by a renowned, classically trained French chef. The restaurant offers a garden patio for outdoor seating, and private parties can be accommodated. Whether you’re stopping in for a walk-in dinner or booking ahead (max table of six), Max’s delivers a precise, memorable meal in the heart of Kinsale. Open five nights a week from June to September, closed Thursdays and Sundays.
