The story
In the heart of the Langhe, a medieval castle surrounded by rolling vineyards sets the stage for the dining experience at Alessandro Mecca al Castello di Grinzane Cavour. The restaurant occupies a Unesco World Heritage site, where the quiet grandeur of the castle allows the food to take center stage.
Chef Alessandro Mecca describes his mission as returning to people a food that is concrete, straightforward, and without frills. His cooking is a modern cuisine that strips away complexity to reveal the beauty of ingredients. He calls it a "cucina di gesto" — cooking made with love and beauty, where a few elements are in harmony. The philosophy is to simplify, giving value to the raw product and the work of excellent artisans.
The menu is an expression of Italy's cultural biodiversity, changing with the rhythm of the land. Guests can choose from two tasting paths. Tra le Mura tells the story of the Langhe territory through dishes rooted in Piedmontese tradition. Punti di Vista is a contemporary gastronomic journey of 5, 6, or 7 courses selected by the chef. Highlights from the current offering include Agnolotti del Plin ai 3 arrosti, a classic of the region, alongside more modern expressions like Risotto e seppia and Piccione intero cotto su brace. The wine list is a deep exploration of Italian biodiversity, focusing on small producers who highlight the unique character of their land.
This commitment to a clear, ingredient-driven vision has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended award, placing it among the notable destinations for modern cuisine in Alba.
