The story
In Apricena’s historic centre, steps from the Torre dell’orologio, Corte Federiciana channels the medieval elegance of Frederick II of Swabia. The restaurant’s name and setting recall that imperial legacy, yet the kitchen is firmly anchored in the present – and in the sea. Here, seafood is the star, prepared with the kind of precision that recently earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction.
Michele Milone’s love of cooking began in childhood, surrounded by family recipes and the authentic flavours of the Gargano. After years of experience and culinary research, he opened Corte Federiciana as a place where maritime tradition meets contemporary creativity. Every morning, Milone personally selects the day’s fish from local fishing boats; vegetables come from Gargano growers, and every preparation is designed to let the ingredients speak. “Cooking is my way of telling the story of this land,” he says.
The dining room blends medieval character with modern comfort. A garden offers outdoor seating in warmer months, and the whole space is wheelchair accessible. Whether inside or out, the atmosphere is welcoming and unhurried – a setting that suits both intimate dinners and private parties.
Corte Federiciana’s menu is built around Mediterranean seafood. Two sample dishes from the kitchen: Linguine Limone e Gamberi, a refined first course pairing lemon freshness with sweet prawns, and Tartare di Ombrine – raw fish of the highest quality, cut by knife and served with a delicate citrus dressing and Gargano extra-virgin olive oil. The restaurant also offers a meat menu, but the sea remains the protagonist. Seasonal ingredients and careful sourcing define every plate.
The Michelin Recommended award for 2026 highlights the restaurant’s consistent quality. Beyond à la carte dining, Corte Federiciana hosts themed evenings – a medieval dinner inspired by Frederick II’s era, wine tastings with seafood pairings, and a special Sunday lunch featuring the day’s freshest catch. These events extend the experience beyond the plate, connecting guests to the region’s history and produce.
