The story

Damini Macelleria & Affini, Arzignano – Michelin-Starred Butcher & Restaurant

Damini Macelleria & Affini in Arzignano is a place where the craft of butchery meets the artistry of fine dining. The Damini family has been raising and selecting meat for nearly a century: the original bottega was opened by the great-grandfather in the 1920s on the hills of San Giovanni Ilarione, and the values of that time—a handshake, a direct relationship with the farmer, an intuitive knowledge of the animal—still guide the business today.

Now in its fourth generation, the name Damini stands for earnestness, respect and quality. In 2015, brothers Gian Pietro (the butcher) and Giorgio (the chef) reopened the family macelleria with a larger vision. They kept the traditional banco but added a restaurant, a bottega for gourmet provisions, and a philosophy they call “buono e sano”—good, and good for you. The result is a destination that feels both rooted and new.

In the dining room, chef Giorgio Damini works with the meats his brother sources from trusted breeders. His cooking is modern Italian, grounded in the Veneto tradition but open to unexpected combinations. The menus change regularly and are offered as surprise tasting paths: six courses, nine courses, or the “La Carne – I Classici Damini” selection that highlights the butchery’s finest cuts. Wine pairings, drawn from a carefully curated cellar, start at 60 euros per person. Giorgio also reworks Venetian classics—his version of fegato alla veneziana or a cold tagliolino with aneto, curry, coconut, bisque and raw meat—showing a kitchen that respects the past while looking ahead.

The atmosphere, as the Daminis describe it, is “gioiosa e appassionata.” The restaurant shares space with the shop, so guests can see the day’s cuts before they sit down. There is also a bottega, “Da Noi,” where you can buy the same meats, wines and preserves to take home.

The Michelin star arrived in 2015, making Damini Macelleria & Affini the first butcher-restaurant in Europe to receive that recognition. It remains a rare blend of two worlds: the precision of a fine-dining kitchen and the honesty of a family-run macelleria. In Arzignano, the Damini brothers have built more than a restaurant—they have created a place that embodies the best of modern cuisine, where quality meat is the starting point and the story behind every dish is told with integrity.

Past shelves lined with premium bottles, carefully selected meat cuts, and high-end takeaway delicacies, you enter the warm and elegant dining room. The Damini family has practiced the art of butchery for four generations, making meat the undisputed star of the menu, though seafood is also prominently featured. Tartares, burgers, and ribeye steaks are dry-aged to perfection. Kobe beef and Rubia Gallega, as well as pigeon, deliver an original journey through exceptional flavors. Even the traditional Milanese cutlet becomes remarkably tender under Chef Giorgio Damini’s expert hands. The menu also features a surprise tasting option of six or nine courses, allowing the chef’s creativity to run free. An outstanding selection of champagnes and French wines rounds out the experience.
