The story
On the statale 231 between Asti and Alba, in the small town of Isola d’Asti, Il Cascinalenuovo has been a destination for refined Piedmontese dining for over fifty years. The restaurant is the work of the Ferretto brothers, Walter and Roberto, who have built a reputation on deep local knowledge and a kitchen that respects tradition while looking forward.
The cooking is modern Piedmontese, rooted in the region’s produce and character. Dishes are built around local ingredients—agnello (lamb) from nearby farms, piccione (pigeon) paired with figs, and a creamy yellow pumpkin velouté with a ragù of young rooster and cheese. The menu changes with the seasons, and guests can choose from a tasting menu or the full à la carte, with options for appetizers, first courses, mains, and desserts. A carefully curated wine list accompanies the food.
The team in the kitchen is led by Walter Ferretto alongside chef Gabriele Bianco, whose creations aim to leave a lasting impression. The restaurant’s commitment to quality has been recognized by Michelin, which awarded it a star that it has held for over thirty years, and it continues to appear in the guide as a Recommended restaurant. Other accolades include mentions from La Stampa, la Repubblica, and Veronelli, among many others.
The atmosphere is welcoming and professional, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, closed Sunday evenings and Mondays. Parking is on site, and the team also offers takeaway. Il Cascinalenuovo is part of a small hospitality group that includes an adjoining hotel, making it easy to linger in the Langhe countryside.
