The story
Villa Elena occupies the highest part of Bergamo’s ancient Città Alta, inside a Renaissance villa remodeled in the early 1900s with an eclectic blend of Baroque and Liberty style. The surrounding park—with secular yews, magnolias, and Lebanon cedars—spreads across several levels linked by staircases and paths, evoking a small Versailles. This historic setting, beloved by locals, is the home of Enrico Bartolini’s Villa Elena restaurant.
Resident Chef Marco Galtarossa describes his cooking as a mythological story of the flavors around him. Seasonality drives his menus: ingredients are selected in rhythm with the seasons from small local producers, highlighting the bounty of Bergamo’s gardens, valley cheeses, and meats. Vegetables take center stage, treated with quick grilling and marinades that preserve freshness and intensity. Taste remains the guiding principle, but visual detail receives equal care. This contemporary style, rooted in the territory, has earned Villa Elena two Michelin stars.
Guests can choose among three rooms: a frescoed salon with five tables, and two private rooms (up to six and eight seats) each with a fireplace. In summer, a large terrace opens for outdoor dining overlooking the park. The interiors reflect the villa’s elegance, and the service, led by Director of Sala Edoardo Molteni, embodies a philosophy of respect and personal ethics.
The wine list is curated to complement the contemporary menu, offering a selection that mirrors the kitchen’s attention to detail and local character.
