The story

Cantina dei Cacciatori, Bra – Timeless Piedmontese Cooking with a Michelin Bib Gourmand

A Family Legacy in the Roero Hills

Just outside Monteu Roero, along a road edged with woods and chestnut trees, Cantina dei Cacciatori has been a fixture since the early 1900s. In 1998, the Forno family took over and lovingly restored the building, beginning a new chapter. Today, the second generation runs the trattoria: Fabrizio works alongside his mother Paola in the kitchen, his wife Flavia looks after the dining room, and his father Bruno curates the wine cellar and sources the finest local ingredients.

Piedmontese Cooking, Season by Season

Here, typical Piedmontese cuisine comes alive through dishes that highlight seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. The kitchen excels at homemade pasta—tajarin with Bra sausage ragù and coniglio grigio di Carmagnola with cherry tomatoes and taggiasche olives are specialties. In season, the menu welcomes white truffles from Alba, porcini mushrooms, asparagus, and Carmagnola peppers prepared in four ways. A tasting menu (starting at €38) lets you explore the range, while the à la carte offers clarity for those who know exactly what they want. The restaurant also boasts a rich selection of local cheeses, a varied dessert list, and creamy artisanal gelatos made by Fabrizio.

Warmth and Intimacy in Every Season

The main dining room centers on a stone fireplace that fills the space with warmth and light during colder months. Two smaller rooms offer quieter corners, while the outdoor gazebo—with its wooden beams and colorful furnishings—provides a peaceful spot for meals surrounded by nature. The wine cellar, a true highlight, holds more than 200 labels, mostly from Langhe and Roero, plus rare bottles from other regions.

A Well-Earned Recognition

The restaurant’s quality has been recognized for years: Slow Food awarded its top “Chiocciola” honor in 2008, and Gambero Rosso gave it the “Two Shrimp” in 2015. Since 2013, Cantina dei Cacciatori has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand, celebrating dishes that deliver exceptional value without pretense—exactly what this family-run trattoria does, meal after meal.
