The story
Perched above Bressanone (Brixen) in the Isarco Valley, Alpenrose is a restaurant where the cooking is as grounded as the landscape. The kitchen team, led by chef Jürgen, focuses on handmade classic cuisine that draws equally from South Tyrolean tradition and Mediterranean lightness. Every dish—whether meat, vegetable, or fruit—starts with locally sourced ingredients, prepared fresh and in season.
The dining rooms are restored Stuben, warm and characterful, with a large main hall and a sunny terrace for warmer months. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, suited to both hotel guests and locals who come for lunch or dinner. On weekends and certain evenings, the restaurant hosts barbecue nights with fish and meat specialities, and twice a week a brunch is served.
Alpenrose’s menu is built on homemade specialities. Among the recipes shared by the kitchen are classics like braised beef cheeks, buckwheat mosa with elderberry jelly, smoked trout mousse, and apple Schmarren (a sweet shredded pancake). Pappardelle with chestnut flour and game ragù, potato dumplings (canederli) with beetroot and leek, and a Bauerngröstel (farmer’s hash) all reflect the restaurant’s commitment to hearty, honest cooking. A separate children’s menu and a play area make it family-friendly.
The restaurant also caters private events for up to 150 guests, offering tailored menus and flexible use of the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Alpenrose has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction, a mark of the consistent quality and care that define its kitchen. It is a place where the setting—overlooking the valley, surrounded by the Dolomites—matches the food: unpretentious, satisfying, and rooted in place. Whether you come for a weekday dinner or a Sunday lunch, the welcome is genuine, and the cooking speaks for itself.
