The story
In the heart of the Isarco Valley in South Tyrol, Der Unterwirt combines Alpine charm with culinary sophistication. This guesthouse and restaurant, located in the small village of Gufidaun above Chiusa, offers a setting where genuine hospitality meets high-level gastronomy. Its kitchen has been recognized with a Michelin recommendation, a testament to the quality and creativity on offer.
The restaurant's approach is rooted in the territory: regional cuisine reinterpreted with Mediterranean influences and adapted to the seasons. Dishes are crafted with care, served in Gothic-style dining rooms or on the covered terrace, and paired with wines selected by the in-house sommelier. The atmosphere is one of conscious pleasure—quiet, refined, and deeply connected to the surrounding landscape.
Der Unterwirt also operates as a guesthouse, with seven suites and rooms finished in oiled natural wood and natural materials. A heated pool and garden with fruit trees invite relaxation after a day exploring the nearby Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The restaurant is open for à la carte dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, starting at 18:30. Guests are asked to note that dogs are not permitted in the dining room, and any allergies or intolerances should be communicated at the time of booking.
Whether for a meal or an overnight stay, Der Unterwirt offers a genuine taste of modern South Tyrolean cuisine in a setting that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
