The story
On the slopes of Cortona, in a restored Tuscan farmhouse, Enoteca Meucci brings together two passions: a contemporary restaurant and a serious wine shop. Mauro and Laura Meucci, the owners of the historic Bar del Riccio, purchased the old casale in 2017. By December 2019, they had transformed it into a destination for wine lovers, and soon after, the upstairs became a dining room led by Chef Massimo Romano.
The restaurant is an exclusive space where Romano’s cooking bridges international experience and local tradition. The menu changes with the seasons, built around fresh, seasonal ingredients. Dishes range from a warm pecorino cream on pea velouté to hand-pulled tagliatelle with Tuscan ragù, and a grilled Parmigiano Reggiano beef fillet. A tasting menu offers a longer journey through these flavors, and for those who want to explore pairings, the Food & Wine Experiences are designed around the enoteca’s remarkable selection.
The wine program is the heart of the project. With over 2,000 labels from Italy and France, the enoteca stocks everything from small, passionate producers to legendary names. The ground floor includes a dedicated tasting room, and the shop also sells gourmet products like balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and seasonal pastries from Chef Romano’s kitchen. During summer, the outdoor dehors offers views of Cortona and the sunset, serving both aperitifs and dinner.
The quality of the experience has been recognized with a Michelin Recommended award, a fitting nod to a place where the cooking and the cellar are treated with equal seriousness. Enoteca Meucci is a restaurant that feels rooted in its place — contemporary Tuscan cuisine, a world-class wine list, and a setting that is both refined and welcoming.
