The story
Set in the rolling hills near Cortona, Locanda del Molino occupies a restored mill overlooking a small stream. The property, part of a family-run inn with eight rooms, is an oasis of calm surrounded by landscapes that define the region. The Michelin Recommended status reflects a kitchen that respects local ingredients and the rituals of the seasons.
The cooking is straightforward and honest: Chianina beef and Cinta senese roast reign alongside fragrant wild herbs; poultry is paired with Tuscan spices and seasonal fruits. The menu changes daily, drawing on organic grains, fresh cheeses, cured meats, and vegetables from the territory. A daily menu revives the pleasure of traditional eating, matched with regional wines.
Breakfast is a quiet pleasure: Simona’s apple cake, blackberry-and-pine-nut crostata, natural yogurts, stone-ground farro bread, and house-made marmalade. In the evening, the bar or terrace offers an aperitivo of bruschetta with Tuscan oil and a glass of red.
The owners – one grew up in the family restaurant, breathing in “passion and energy that never leaves you” – welcome guests for weddings, work dinners, and celebrations. Whether you come for lunch, dinner, or simply a coffee, the atmosphere is personal and unhurried.
This is Tuscan cuisine at its most genuine: a meal that tells the story of the land.
