The story
In the historic center of Carloforte, on the island of San Pietro, the Pomata family has been running restaurants for three generations. It started with Nonno Luigi, a farmer with a strong passion for cooking, who took over the kitchen of a local hotel. Today, the family’s flagship, Ristorante Da Nicolo, is celebrated among the top restaurants in the region.
The restaurant sits on the Lungomare Battellieri, housed in a building that once served as a mineral deposit, then a lime store, and later a fishermen’s warehouse. Renovated in 1996, the space now holds three air-conditioned rooms with 100 seats. The atmosphere is refined but welcoming, with a veranda overlooking the port.
The menu is a celebration of the island’s traditions with modern variations. You can choose from an à la carte menu (served at lunch and dinner), a fixed-price “Menu Degustazione,” and a “Menu Tradizione” (lunch only). There is also a dessert menu and an extensive wine list. The kitchen’s focus is on local seafood, and dishes like the linguine with tuna, olives, and lemon have become signatures. The Michelin guide’s recommendation reflects the consistency and quality of this modern Italian cuisine.
For a more casual experience, the family also runs the Pomata Bistrot, adjacent to the main restaurant. There, you will find excellent pizza and dishes from the Carloforte culinary tradition, served in the evenings.
