The story
In the heart of Carpi, the Barolo brothers run Il Barolino, a restaurant rooted in the traditions of Emilia. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, designed for informal lunches with colleagues or dinners among friends. Here, the focus is squarely on the plate: simple, genuine regional cooking made with care.
The kitchen’s philosophy is clear: pasta is made entirely by hand, “like in the old days.” Tortellini are still closed by hand, filled with parmigiano cream. Second courses benefit from innovative cooking techniques, while desserts stay true to the region’s sweet heritage. Regulars and newcomers alike will find the “grandi classici” – the classics that define the place: tortelli, gramigna with sausage ragù, cappelletto in capon broth, braised guancialino, roast rabbit, mascarpone cream with biscuits and chocolate, and the original torta Barozzi.
This dedication to authentic Emilian cuisine, paired with a warm, unfussy welcome, earned Il Barolino a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026 – a recognition that feels like a natural fit for a kitchen that respects its roots while quietly refining its techniques.
Il Barolino extends its passion for regional produce through Il Barolino Food Lab, a shop just across the street at Via Giovanni XXIII 125. There you’ll find a curated selection of wines, spirits, handmade pasta, sauces, preserves, cheeses, cured meats, and traditional sweets – many of the same ingredients and products that appear on the restaurant’s menu, available to take home.
