The story
At Le Sirenuse, the legendary hotel overlooking Positano, La Sponda offers a dining experience rooted in the culinary traditions of Naples and the Gulf. The kitchen, led by executive chef Gennaro Russo, focuses on fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients, creating Mediterranean cuisine that is both light and respectful of the territory.
Chef Russo’s path to La Sponda is one of rigorous training. Born in Somma Vesuviana, he spent three years in Paris as chef-de-partie at two Michelin-starred restaurants, Lasserre and L'Ambroisie, before working alongside Massimo Bottura at Osteria Francescana. After serving as sous-chef at La Sponda under Matteo Temperini, he became executive chef in spring 2016 at age 29. He credits his Paris years with teaching him “technique and precision” and the importance of teamwork. His menus continue the restaurant’s light, Mediterranean approach, with a steadfast rule: respect for local territory and ingredients.
The setting is intimate and unforgettable. Dinner is served by the light of four hundred candles, accompanied by the music of a mandolin and guitar duo. The atmosphere captures the dolce vita of the Amalfi Coast, framed by a breathtaking panorama of the sea. This combination of refined cooking and romantic ambiance has earned La Sponda a Michelin recommendation, marking it as a destination for fine dining on the coast.
For lunch, the poolside terrace offers a more casual option, surrounded by flowers and lemon trees, with service from 12:30 to 18:00.
