The story

Piazzetta Milù – Two Michelin Stars in Castellammare di Stabia | Contemporary Italian Dining

The Izzo Family and the Evolution of a Restaurant

Piazzetta Milù began as a family venture – Michele, Lucia, and their three sons Emanuele, Valerio, and Maicol – built from “idee, rischi, desideri e tanto lavoro.” The restaurant’s motto is “Una famiglia, il nucleo di tutto.” Over the years, each brother has carved a distinct role: Maicol in the kitchen, Emanuele as sommelier (named Sommelier of the Year in Europe 2023), and Valerio among Italy’s top ten bartenders. Together with a young, international team, they run a project in continuous evolution.

Chef Maicol Izzo: A Global Training Ground

Maicol Izzo, the youngest of the three, left Castellammare di Stabia early to train in some of the world’s most demanding kitchens. He spent two years at La Torre del Saracino with Gennaro Esposito, followed by stages at Alain Ducasse’s Dorchester in London and StreetXo with David Muñoz. His defining years were with Albert Adrià at the Tickets and El Barri group in Barcelona, then at Mauro Colagreco’s three-Michelin-star Mirazur. In 2021 he joined René Redzepi’s Noma in Copenhagen. This background – a blend of Spanish avant-garde, French precision, and Nordic creativity – shapes the contemporary cuisine he now crafts at home.

In 2020, at age 26, Maicol became the youngest chef in Campania to earn a Michelin star. In 2023 he received a second star, and in 2024 the Michelin Young Chef Award. The restaurant also holds four Cappelli from Le Guide de L’Espresso and numerous wine-list accolades.

The Dining Experience: A Single, Evolving Menu

Piazzetta Milù offers only one tasting menu, named “Evoluzione.” It changes six times a year, each iteration completely new, inspired by the season. The restaurant deliberately does not reveal dish names or the number of courses – “è la nostra idea di libertà.” The experience is meant to be a discovery, an adventure through the family’s tastes, travels, and creativity. The current menu, Menu Evoluzione Estate.26, is priced at €250 per person, with a sommelier pairing (€150) that includes wines, cocktails, champagne, sake, and homemade drinks. The kitchen, called “La Fabbrica delle idee,” is fully open, allowing guests to watch the brigade at work.

The contemporary cuisine is built on technique, research, and experimentation, yet rooted in the Izzo family’s story. It is a deeply personal expression, guided by the three brothers at every step. For those seeking an intimate, avant-garde meal in Campania, Piazzetta Milù delivers an experience that is both ambitious and grounded.

An established project that now maintains its founding principle intact: you go to a restaurant to feel good. Piazzetta Milù continues to stand out as a destination of great value within the Italian gastronomic landscape, where bold creativity coexists with a warm, natural sense of hospitality. Brothers Maicol, Emanuele, and Valerio Izzo guide a journey in which the kitchen, dining room, and wine cellar interact with millimetric precision. Maicol crafts a menu, updated several times throughout the year, that is presented as a blind narrative: no names, no previews, just an invitation to surrender to the restaurant’s rhythm. The experience unfolds across multiple spaces—spanning the cellar, kitchen, and dining room—following a dynamic path that engages guests from arrival to departure, complete with delightful surprises. Here, techniques multiply, while the storytelling of the local terroir and the power of the ingredients combine to create characterful dishes you will remember for a long time. The most defining moment is the opening course, featuring a series of carefully curated tastings. Then comes the iconic Mezzopacchero alla marinara, awarded "Dish of the Year 2025". It is a cuisine that surprises without sacrificing richness, possessing a rare ability to transform tradition into creative tension. The wine cellar, curated by Emanuele, is extensive, profound, and deeply passionate; the service, managed by Valerio, remains one of the most personal and bespoke in all of Italian dining. This destination brings together vision, technique, and human warmth, leaving behind the rare sensation of having lived a complete and harmonious experience—even when the bill arrives.
