L'Acquario Castiglione del Lago: Umbrian cuisine and lake fish Bib Gourmand

A century of history, three decades of family care

Within the medieval walls of Castiglione del Lago, on the shores of Lake Trasimeno, L’Acquario has been a witness to the 20th century since the early 1900s. In 1992, the Chiucchiurlotto family took over its legacy, becoming custodians of this small piece of history, life, people, and food. With humility and respect, they continue to express their values through the quality of ingredients, the atmosphere, and a thoughtful approach to cooking.

The restaurant’s commitment to honest, quality cooking has earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a recognition for good quality, good value cuisine. Here, that recognition is earned daily through a philosophy centred on local products. The menu’s true protagonists are ingredients from the surrounding Umbrian countryside, like the fagiolina del Trasimeno bean and saffron, which carry forward the region’s culinary tradition.

Lake fish and homemade pasta

Lake fish is L’Acquario’s first love. Through collaboration with local fishermen’s cooperatives, the kitchen brings carp, perch, eel, and tench to the table, presenting them as the precious gifts of the lake they are. Alongside these specialties, the restaurant takes pride in its homemade pasta and bread, made as they have always been.

The wine cellar offers a curated selection of the best local and Italian labels, with white, red, sparkling, and spirits chosen to pair thoughtfully with each dish. The sommeliers are on hand to guide guests through the options.
