The story
In the centre of Castiglione delle Stiviere, Hostaria del Teatro has been open since 2006, run by Claudio and Elena. The name hints at the nearby theatre, but the kitchen is no mere staging. The space is a former late-18th-century carriage house, transformed into a rustic-chic setting that feels both grounded and refined.
Chef Claudio Truzzi leads the kitchen with a contemporary Italian menu built on territory-driven ingredients. Antipasti include a carpaccio of scampi with basil and hummus, or a mantecato pike in hazelnut crust with pea cream. First courses range from a risotto with pea cream, robiola, and pesto to tortelli of ricotta and chard with smoked eel and tamarind. Secondi feature roasted tuna loin with Caesar salad dressing, or a boiled capocollo with green sauce and raw red shrimp. Desserts, like the “Il frutto proibito” (white chocolate shell, apple, cream gelato) or the classic Opera coffee and zabaglione, close the meal on a high note.
For those wanting to explore the chef’s vision fully, two tasting menus are available: “I Classici del Teatro” (€80) and a five-course libre menu (€85), both served to the whole table.
The restaurant’s commitment to refined, sincere cooking earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026 – a recognition that aligns with the promise of an intimate, memorable experience. Whether seated indoors or on the outdoor terrace, guests are offered a relaxed atmosphere where the food speaks clearly, without unnecessary flourishes.
Hostaria del Teatro is closed on Thursdays. Reservations can be made by phone or email.
