The story
Materia | Spazio Cucina is a gastronomic laboratory inside the Habitat Boutique Hotel in Catania's historic center, practicing modern Sicilian cuisine. The restaurant has earned a place in the Michelin Guide, a recognition of its commitment to quality and authenticity.
Research, territory, sustainability, tradition – these are the pillars that guide the kitchen. The menu follows the seasons, changing to reflect the best of what the island offers. The cooking is rooted in Sicilian memory but open to experimentation, capturing the contrasts and generosity of this unique land.
Since 2020, Chef Bianca Celano has led the kitchen as consultant and chef. Her cooking brings together memory, sustainability, ethics, and an unrelenting search for quality. For her and her passionate team, excellence begins with the raw ingredient.
The day starts with a breakfast that smells of Sicily: freshly baked cakes, bread, and typical biscuits, alongside local cheeses, cured meats, and seasonal fruit and vegetables. Dinner breaks away from conventions, putting flavors and ingredients at the center – a menu that evokes the sounds, colors, and aromas of the island.
Beyond the regular menu, Materia | Spazio Cucina offers unique experiences. The "Dine in the Kitchen" seats just five guests for a ten-course surprise tasting menu by Chef Celano, focusing on meat, fish, and shellfish. It’s an unfiltered look behind the scenes of the laboratory. The cooking class teaches the secrets of Sicilian cuisine, ending with a tasting. Guests can also take a gourmet picnic basket filled with seasonal specialties, perfect for exploring Catania and its surroundings.
The restaurant occupies the first floor of a historical building, creating an intimate and welcoming atmosphere. It also hosts private events, special dinners, and catering. Whether for breakfast, dinner, or one of the experiences, Materia | Spazio Cucina offers a genuine taste of Sicily in the heart of Catania.
