The story
In Chiusi Scalo, Osteria La Solita Zuppa honors the rhythms of the earth and the traditions of Tuscany. The kitchen works with earthenware pots and a wood-fired oven, using slow cooking to preserve the integrity of each ingredient. This is a place where the cooking process itself is part of the experience—an approach that has earned the restaurant a Michelin Bib Gourmand for good quality, good value cooking.
The story of the osteria reaches back to the 1930s, but today it is the passion of Andrea and Lorella that defines the spirit of the house. They have built a restaurant that feels both timeless and personal, rooted in the landscape of Siena province.
The menu is a direct expression of Tuscan cuisine. Soups are the signature—an extensive offering built from organic legumes, seasonal vegetables, cereals, mushrooms, chestnuts, and onions. For those seeking something heartier, there are first courses of house-made pasta, carefully selected Chianina beef, and a remarkable cheese selection that pairs Tuscan specialties with Italian DOP producers. Desserts are rich, and the meal finishes with coffee served with cream and small chocolate bonbons.
Two tasting menus are available: one of three courses with paired wines, and a more ambitious six-course option. The wine list is notable, offering choices for every budget.
Beyond the dining room, La Solita Zuppa operates a bottega where guests can purchase the restaurant’s own soups and local artisanal products. The space includes outdoor seating, a private room, and air conditioning, making it suitable for both lunch and dinner. The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, driven by a genuine desire to share the best of the territory.
