The most pleasant spot is high up in the Malcantone at the Cacciatori, beside a babbling fountain in a magical garden. Here, and in the restaurant of this long-established family-run business, the very friendly staff serve not only Ticino classics but primarily French- and Italian-inspired dishes. There are no surprises, but what’s served is consistently well-executed. For example, a warm salad artfully arranged with orange and grapefruit, featuring a wild-caught lobster tail that is unfortunately a bit dry. Or a crispy asparagus millefeuille made from puff pastry, paired with a delicate chervil velouté. The green asparagus flan, served with a rich asparagus cream sauce, is also delicious. The house specialty is the risotto served in a Parmesan wheel, which we ordered this time alongside a delicate saltimbocca in Marsala sauce. The Cacciatori features a legendary multi-tiered dessert trolley, heavily stocked with sweets. We treated ourselves to an outstanding, freshly inverted crème caramel, served à la minute with plenty of whipped cream and fresh berries.
