The story
At Agorà in Rende, the kitchen looks south to the Ionian Sea. The restaurant’s identity is built on a simple, rigorous idea: the best local fish, bought daily from trusted suppliers in the ports of Corigliano, Amendolara, and Trebisacce. The aim is to alter the catch as little as possible, preserving the natural characteristics of each ingredient. This commitment to quality and transparency has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026.
Born and raised in the coastal town of Trebisacce, chef Michele Rizzo is both a chef and a professional sommelier. His cooking is rooted in the marinara tradition of his upbringing, but he approaches it with a young, passionate curiosity. He is a deep student of ingredients and cooking techniques, and that knowledge translates into plates that are both refined and harmonious. The presentation, too, is deliberate — Agorà emphasizes “Visual Food,” where every dish is composed with care for the eye as well as the palate.
Agorà’s menu is a contemporary seafood affair, drawing exclusively from the Ionian Sea. The restaurant describes its food as “alta cucina di pesce” — high-level seafood cooking — built on freshness and authenticity. The sourcing is hyper-local: daily purchases from the most respected fishermen and markets in the region. This proximity means the kitchen can let the raw material speak, with minimal intervention. The result is a cuisine that feels both modern and deeply connected to its place, with each plate offering a sense of the sea’s genuine character.
