The story

Osteria Vecchio Borgo: Piedmontese-Ligurian Country Cooking in Cuneo

Where Piedmont meets Liguria

Osteria Vecchio Borgo opened in 2010 in Demonte, Valle Stura, driven by Antonietta, Anselmo, and their son Valentino’s desire to build a family-run restaurant that celebrates regional products. In 2015, the osteria moved to its current home in the historic center of Cuneo, where it continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. The kitchen draws on the best of Piedmontese and Ligurian traditions, with a focus on country cooking that is both honest and refined.

A room with history

The restaurant occupies a 17th-century building. During a careful renovation, the original wooden coffered ceiling, walnut parquet, and cross vault in the small dining room were preserved. The space is intimate and reserved, with just a few tables to ensure personal attention. In summer, a small outdoor terrace overlooks the historic alley in front of the restaurant.

The family behind the stove

Chef Antonietta, originally from Abruzzo, spent 40 years cooking in Liguria before moving to Piedmont. Her husband Anselmo, a dedicated hunter of quality ingredients, sources the best seasonal produce at local markets. Their son Valentino now runs the restaurant, managing the wine cellar and suppliers. Since 2015, Valentina has been in the kitchen as assistant chef and pastry maker, turning out memorable petits fours.

Slow Food and beyond

The kitchen has been a Slow Food Presidio supporter since 2011, using ingredients like Fassona beef and Grey Rabbit of Carmagnola. The menu also incorporates international products from France and Iceland, always chosen for quality. The result is a cuisine that feels both rooted in the territory and open to the world. The Osteria Vecchio Borgo has earned a place in the MICHELIN Guide, a recognition of its consistent, heartfelt cooking.
