The story
Trattoria da Noemi occupies a 15th-century palazzo in Ferrara’s historic center. Since 1958, the Borgazzi family has welcomed guests here, earning a Michelin Recommended distinction for their authentic Emilian cuisine.
The restaurant is named after Noemi, who bought the property in 1958 with her inheritance. She had previously run osterias in the countryside, learning dishes like baccalà alla veneziana and fish stew. Today, her daughter Maria Cristina runs the trattoria with her sons Luca and Giovanni.
Maria Cristina makes the pasta fresh each morning, rolling out sfoglia for cappellacci, cappelletti, and tagliatelle. She also prepares pasticcio di maccheroni ferrarese, a historic Carnival dish from the Este court, and typical Ferrarese desserts. Giovanni, trained at the Alma culinary school, focuses on second courses of meat. Luca, a professional sommelier, curates the wine list.
The menu is divided into antipasti, primi, secondi, contorni, and dolci, all rooted in the Ferrarese tradition. They offer both a traditional menu and a seasonal menu, reflecting the local ingredients.
The wine list changes with the seasons and highlights local producers. Many bottles are recognized by Slow Wine and Gambero Rosso. Local craft beer is also available. A separate wine library, Libreria del Vino, opened on Via Vittoria 69 for tastings. The dining room retains a family atmosphere, with warm service and a setting that feels both historic and welcoming.
