The story
Just outside Milan, along the Naviglio Grande and surrounded by rice fields, Antica Osteria Magenes has been a fixture since 1890. The restaurant describes itself as “una stella rara tra i ristoranti Lombardi e Italiani” – a rare star among Lombard and Italian restaurants. Its long history is built on tradition and conviviality, yet the kitchen is driven by passion and innovation, constantly rediscovering regional traditions while seeking new flavours.
At the helm is Chef Dario Guidi Magenes, whose philosophy is rooted in a strong sense of territory but open to the best ingredients from around the world. “Gli ingredienti che non devono mai mancare sono ‘Amore e divertimento’,” he says – love and fun are essential. This dynamic approach defines the restaurant’s modern Italian cuisine.
The kitchen is described as a silent, precise performance: “Ogni taglio, ogni fumo, ogni sguardo: è una scena.” Cooking here is a sensory, almost sacred act. Guests experience this theatre through carefully composed dishes that balance tradition with surprise.
Diners can choose from two tasting menus: “Il Mini-Gioco” (10 surprise courses) and “Il Gioco” (15 courses), both showcasing the kitchen’s creativity. The à la carte menu offers classics like the “Plin di parmigiana di melanzane, scampi, origano e colatura d’insalata di pomodoro” and the “Risotto Giallo Milano 2010”, alongside inventive desserts such as “A Calabrian man’s first day of work at Fiat industry”. A carefully curated wine list, featuring small producers, complements the meal.
This dedication to quality has earned Antica Osteria Magenes a Michelin Recommended award for 2026, a testament to its consistent excellence and its place among Italy’s notable dining destinations.
Beyond the restaurant, the Magenes team offers catering for events and gift experiences, allowing guests to share a “viaggio nel gusto” – a journey through taste. Whether in the elegant indoor spaces or the outdoor garden, the atmosphere remains welcoming and refined.
