The story
In the centre of Gallarate, Radici Osteria Contemporanea brings a thoughtful, modern perspective to Italian cuisine. The restaurant was born from owner Fabio’s vision of a place rooted in Italy’s culinary traditions, interpreted with a contemporary sensibility. The name itself — Radici, meaning roots — signals the kitchen’s commitment to the land: seasonal, ingredient-driven dishes that draw inspiration from across the peninsula, from Lombardy to the islands.
The Michelin guide has selected Radici Osteria Contemporanea, a recognition that reflects the care taken in both the kitchen and the cellar. The menu changes regularly, following what is at its peak. Starters might include a 65-degree egg with peas, liquorice and bread croutons, or a beef tartare with asparagus and Parmigiano Reggiano shavings. Among the primi, the tarassaco and ricotta ravioli with sour butter and raspberry gel, and the cavatelli with fava beans, guanciale, pecorino, black lemon and mint, show a kitchen that balances tradition with invention. Secondi range from a stuffed calamari with potatoes and pecorino to a roasted peach dessert with cocoa, amaretto and cream gelato.
The wine list is equally considered. Fabio personally seeks out artisanal vigneron producers, and the selection evolves alongside the food. A wall of wine bottles greets guests upon entry, setting the tone for an evening where drink and dish are given equal weight.
The space itself is welcoming and unpretentious — what one guest described as “a lovely place, easy to reach, with a pleasant, not too formal atmosphere.” It is an osteria in the best sense: a place for good food, good wine, and good company.
