The story
Since 1991, Patrizio and Claudia, with the support of his parents Anna and Mariano, have been welcoming guests to Al Piave in the small village of Corona, Mariano del Friuli. The restaurant sits in the heart of the Isontino area, a stone’s throw from the Collio wine region, known for its hospitality and excellent wines.
Completely renovated in 2006, the trattoria retains its rustic character with a family atmosphere. The entrance still houses a traditional tavern, and two rooms with a communicating fireplace seat about forty guests. In warm weather, meals move to a garden in an inner courtyard.
The cooking here is rooted in home-style tradition. Anna makes all the pasta by hand: gnocchi, tagliatelle, pappardelle, lasagna, ravioli, and the bread too. The menu changes with the seasons, drawing from Friulian recipes, Marche influences, and Mediterranean inspiration. Raw materials are carefully selected, mostly local and seasonal.
Dishes like grilled porcini mushrooms with polenta, sedanini with beef cheek stew and black truffle, or spinach gnocchi stuffed with Montasio cheese with tomato and smoked ricotta showcase the kitchen’s respect for ingredients. Classic plates include homemade lasagna and baked veal shank with potatoes. Desserts such as tiramisu with hot coffee poured separately or bitter chocolate mousse with berries and crispy eggplant round out the meal.
The wine list focuses on local wineries from the area, with a few extra-regional choices.
This consistent, quality-driven approach earned Al Piave a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, a recognition of good quality, good value cooking. It’s a place where tradition and seasonality meet genuine hospitality.
