The story
In Castelnuovo Belbo, in the heart of Piedmont’s Monferrato hills, Da iumén has been a family affair since 1869. The name means “Da Guglielmo” in Piedmontese dialect, and the restaurant has passed through three centuries and five generations. Today, it continues to honour that legacy within renovated walls, serving classic Piedmontese cuisine with a steady hand.
The Michelin Guide has recommended Da iumén, recognising the kitchen’s commitment to territory and tradition. That tradition is most clearly expressed in the Traditional Piedmontese Tasting Menu, available for the whole table. Three tiers – Monferrato, Roero, and Langhe – offer different journeys through the region’s flavours. The Monferrato menu (€35 per person) includes a selection of Piedmontese starters, two pasta dishes, and dessert. The Roero (€40) adds a main course, while the Langhe (€55) is a full four-course experience. Each is a balanced combination of historic dishes and refined technique, staying true to the cooking that has defined the restaurant for over 150 years.
The setting is as welcoming as the food. A terrace overlooks the rolling hills, and the interior blends old stone and modern comfort. The restaurant also functions as a wine bar, with a well-curated list of local labels. Dishes such as the Tonno di Coniglio (rabbir “tuna”) and Trippa appear on the à la carte menu, drawing on the region’s robust pantry.
Da iumén is a place where the past feels present, not through nostalgia but through the quiet confidence of a kitchen that knows its roots. For anyone seeking authentic Piedmontese cooking, it is a stop worth making.
