The story
Il Giardinetto sits in Mandello del Lario, on that branch of Lake Como that turns south, as Manzoni wrote. The restaurant’s wide terrace opens directly onto the lake, and from every table you can take in the panorama. The setting is elegant and relaxed, with an atmosphere that invites lingering.
“Technique and knowledge are important. Passion even more so,” says Chef Gabriele Benenati. His cooking draws on the traditions of the region, with a focus on local lake fish, alongside daily-caught seafood, meat dishes, and vegetarian options. The menu changes with the seasons, and the kitchen can accommodate gluten-free requests with advance notice.
The wine cellar is split into two rooms: one for reds, one for sparkling wines and whites. Bottles are stored at ideal temperature and humidity. The selection spans Italian and international labels, chosen together with the chef. The team takes pride in pairing and preserving these wines.
The restaurant hosts banquets for up to 100 guests, with custom menus for weddings, corporate dinners, and themed evenings. “We believe life should be celebrated day by day, not just on special occasions,” they note.
