The story
Tucked into a narrow “strittu” – a characteristic Aeolian alley – Trattoria del Vicolo feels like a discovery. The outdoor tables sit in the quiet intimacy of the vicolo, while the dining room is fresh and modern, finished in light colours. This is the kind of place where the atmosphere alone makes you slow down.
The story began nearly half a century ago, with Rosy and Peppe. Their love for good food and genuine hospitality has been passed down through the family, who still run the trattoria today. Guests are treated as expected and important visitors, and the warm, lively welcome is a prelude to the meal.
Chef Giuseppe leads the kitchen with a character that is simple, grounded, and always smiling. His cooking draws on the traditions of Trapani, then fuses them with the delicate aromas of the Aeolian islands. The result is a cuisine that is both rooted and creative – plates with well-balanced, full flavours. He works with modern techniques, but never loses sight of the ingredients and the land.
The menu changes with the seasons, but always highlights quality seafood. Antipasti might include a fantasy of raw fish or grilled octopus on a potato and leek cream with squid-ink mayonnaise. Among the primi, busiate (Sicilian grain pasta) with swordfish, eggplant, and mint, or a risotto with zucchini flowers and clams. Secondi range from red Mazara prawns wrapped in kataifi pastry to low-temperature cooked amberjack. Desserts stay true to the island: a cheesecake with a soft peach heart and five-cereal crunch, or a classic Sicilian cannolo.
The Michelin guide has awarded Trattoria del Vicolo its Recommended status, a nod to the quality and consistency of Chef Giuseppe’s modern Sicilian cuisine. It’s a recognition that feels earned: the careful sourcing, the thoughtful technique, and the genuine hospitality that makes every dinner feel like a celebration.
