The story
Tucked away in the countryside of the Miranese, just minutes from the Mirano Dolo motorway exit, Il Sogno is a small pearl of Venetian cuisine that has caught the attention of national guides, including the Michelin Bib Gourmand. The award, for good quality, good value cooking, recognizes the restaurant's commitment to bringing old flavors of local tradition to the table.
The trattoria is run by two partners: Silvano, a maître with long experience in the dining room, and Marco, a young, bright chef in the kitchen. Together, they fuse their expertise to manage Il Sogno and serve dishes rooted in the region's culinary heritage.
The atmosphere is welcoming, designed to make guests feel truly at home. The space includes three rooms: a small salon ideal for business meetings, a larger room capable of accommodating groups for ceremonies such as communions and weddings, and a heated external veranda perfect for spring days. In summer, the restaurant expands into a wonderful garden with a gazebo and patio for tranquil al fresco dining.
Il Sogno's menu is broad and attentive to seasonality. In winter, the highlight is one of the finest boiled meat carts imaginable, featuring a dozen different cuts available at both lunch and dinner, paired with the most appropriate sauces or, for the bold, freshly grated horseradish. From quality meat comes a good broth, and true to home tradition, fresh tortellini are served in a tureen. Other pasta offerings include bigoli with San Marzano tomato sauce, guanciale ragù, and homemade herb butter, served plain with sauces on the side so each diner can dress their own plate – and make "scarpetta" (sopping up the sauce). There are also house-made gnocchi with Padovana hen ragù, and pumpkin ravioli with butter and sage.
Starters range from the aforementioned Padovana hen in saor (a Slow Food Presidium) to artichokes gratinée with taleggio, or simply a knife-cut Montagnana raw ham. Beyond the celebrated boiled meat cart, main courses include stuffed roast duck, a cocotte of offal, and trippa alla parmigiana. This is honest, country cooking with a Venetian soul.
