The story
Alessandro Feo’s restaurant in Marina di Casal Velino, on the Cilento coast, is the realization of a homecoming. Born here in 1985, Feo trained in professional kitchens across Campania and beyond, but always knew he would return. In April 2019, he opened his own place, named after himself, in the small fishing port where he once watched boats unload their changing catches.
The restaurant’s design nods to a ship’s hold, with stone from Acquavella and traditional mummulieddi on the ceiling. The atmosphere is one of deliberate calm – a space where time slows down. Feo describes his menu as a daily logbook, written by what the sea and the surrounding land choose to give him. “I follow the sea, remove the superfluous, and let the raw ingredient speak,” he writes.
Seafood is the compass here. Feo calls it Mare Madre – Mother Sea – the silent struggle between what the water decides to offer and the chef’s duty to bring it ashore faithfully. Every day, the catch dictates the direction. But the kitchen is equally rooted in the garden. “Where the sea ends, the garden begins,” Feo says. He tends the soil himself, understanding the raw materials at their source. The result is a Campanian cuisine that is essential and direct: local, seasonal ingredients transformed with minimal intervention, letting the product’s truth lead.
This clarity of vision has earned the restaurant a Michelin recommendation for 2026. The guide recognizes Feo’s ability to translate the rhythm of the Cilento coast onto the plate – a cuisine born from memory and intuition, where the sea’s daily gifts are treated with patience and respect. For diners, it is an invitation to sit at the chef’s table and read his diary of the day.
