The story
Just a short drive from Venice, in the heart of Mirano, Da Flavio e Fabrizio "Al Teatro" has earned a loyal following for its straightforward, high-quality seafood cooking. The restaurant holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a recognition that rewards good quality and good value – and the menu reflects exactly that.
The kitchen works exclusively with fresh, first-choice fish, prepared according to the classic recipes of the Veneto region. The proximity to the lagoon shapes the offerings: expect crudités like tartare, oysters, mantis shrimp, and scallops, followed by house-made gnocchi, risotti, and fresh or dried pasta. The pasta itself is a point of pride – the restaurant uses germe di grano pasta from Pastificio Morelli, and the coffee comes from one of Italy’s top ten roasters, Espresso Giada.
Among the antipasti, the bollito misto dell’Adriatico – a mixed boiled seafood platter with scampi, prawns, and cuttlefish eggs – is a signature. First courses range from tagliolini bianchi e neri with baby squid and zucchini to a risotto alla chioggiotta. For mains, branzino al sale, rombo al forno with potatoes and Taggiasca olives, and San Pietro fillet with porcini mushrooms sit alongside classic fritture fried in extra virgin olive oil. The astice alla catalana is available on request. Desserts are made in-house: a chocolate tortino with a soft heart, semifreddi, and panna cotta with strawberry sauce.
The atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious – the owners describe it as genuine, spontaneous, and pleasant. The dining rooms accommodate couples, families, and groups, and there is outdoor seating in warmer months. A carefully curated wine list, often selected in collaboration with the AIS Venezia, complements the meal.
Da Flavio e Fabrizio "Al Teatro" is closed Monday and Tuesday. It is a reliable address for anyone seeking honest Venetian seafood cooking without the crowds of the city.
