The story
Bon Wei opened in Milan in 2010 as the city’s first restaurant dedicated to alta cucina regionale cinese – high regional Chinese cuisine. The aim was clear from the start: to move beyond clichés and offer a filologically correct, elevated experience that lets diners discover the true breadth of China’s gastronomic heritage. The restaurant’s own words describe it as “a journey into culture, taste and style that will satisfy soul and palate.”
The kitchen draws from the badacaixi – the eight great culinary regions of China. Each dish is built on fresh, high-quality ingredients, respecting the traditions and stories from each area. The team worked with Professor Francesco Boggio Ferraris of the Fondazione Italia Cina to shape a cultural project that brings authentic regional recipes to Milanese tables. The menu is divided into a classic carta and a regional Chinese selection, allowing guests to explore both familiar and lesser-known specialties.
The atmosphere at Bon Wei is described as a “refined sensory experience,” one that balances modern elegance with the warmth of Chinese hospitality. The space is designed to make the food the centre of attention, with attention to detail that mirrors the precision of the cooking. Air conditioning, parking and wheelchair access ensure comfort for all guests.
Bon Wei’s commitment to quality and authenticity has earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction. This award reflects the restaurant’s consistent delivery of a dining experience that is both culturally rich and technically accomplished – a rare combination in Milan’s Chinese food scene.
