The story
Dim Sum, opened in December 2013 by entrepreneurs Yike Weng and Chiara Wang Pei, brings the ritual of Hong Kong’s dim sum culture to Milan. The duo, who previously created the acclaimed Chinese restaurant Bon Wei, worked with designer Carlo Samarati to craft a space that feels both luxurious and serene. Blue lighting, mirrored surfaces veiled with delicate chains, and clean lines set the stage for a dining experience that balances tradition with a contemporary sensibility.
The restaurant’s name refers to the small, bite-sized dishes that “warm the heart” – traditionally served in bamboo baskets and accompanied by tea. Here, those baskets arrive with a glass of Champagne instead, a signature twist that defines the house style. The menu focuses on Cantonese and contemporary cuisine, with Shao Mai, Jiaozi, and Shao Long Bao among the classics, alongside small plates of meat, fish, vegetables, and delicate desserts.
For those who want to explore the kitchen’s full range, Dim Sum offers two 13-course tasting menus, each designed for two people. The He 河 – Fiume (River) menu puts fish at the centre, celebrating freshness and lightness. The Gen 根 – Radice (Root) menu draws on ancestral Chinese cooking traditions, highlighting meat and land-based ingredients. Both weave together innovation and respect for technique, inviting guests on a sensory journey through Cantonese flavours.
Dim Sum’s commitment to refined execution and ingredient integrity has earned it a place in the Michelin Guide, with a Recommended rating in 2026. The recognition underscores the restaurant’s role as a destination for authentic, elegant Chinese dining in Milan – a place where the ancient ritual of dim sum meets modern Italian design and an unexpected Champagne pairing.
