The story

Il Liberty Milan: Contemporary Fine Dining with Michelin Recognition

A Milanese Restaurant with a Michelin Recommendation

On Viale Monte Grappa in Milan, Il Liberty has been a fixture since 2002. Chef and owner Andrea Provenzani, a Milanese native born in 1971, brings a personal vision to the table—one rooted in instinct, curiosity, and a constant push for improvement. The restaurant earned a Michelin Recommended nod for 2026, recognising its consistent quality and thoughtful contemporary cuisine.

The Chef’s Philosophy

Provenzani describes his cooking as “a wonderful journey from thought to the creation of an idea… often a dish.” His approach is instinctive, driven by feeling and pleasure rather than rigid rules. He stresses the importance of human relationships, calling Il Liberty “a family and an opportunity for continuous growth.” The kitchen builds “clean, healthy, positive energy” while never forgetting the origins and traditions of Italian cooking—yet it also welcomes contamination, much like Italy’s own culinary history shaped by centuries of foreign influences.

Tasting Menus That Tell a Story

Il Liberty offers three distinct degustation paths. La mia Milano (“My Milan”) likely reflects Provenzani’s hometown lens. Origini e Tradizione (“Origins and Tradition”) honours classic Italian roots. Contaminazione Evoluzione (“Contamination Evolution”) explores how outside influences enrich the table. Each menu evolves with the seasons, and the chef’s published book Cucinare Sottovuoto (2016) hints at his mastery of sous-vide techniques.

Standout Dishes and Atmosphere

Photographs on the restaurant’s site highlight a dish called Smoke, a Super Chitarino all’Uovo alle Doppie Acciughe (egg pasta with double anchovy), and a Costoleta Alta di Vitello “Rosa” alla Milanese—a tall, pink veal chop prepared in the classic Milanese style. The dining room balances fine-dining service with a relaxed warmth, open for lunch Monday to Friday and dinner Monday to Saturday. Private parties, events, and takeaway are also available.
