The story
Osaka has been a fixture in Milan since 1999, offering what it describes as "l'autentica cucina tradizionale giapponese." After more than 26 years, the restaurant moved in September 2025 to a new location on via Anfiteatro 6, just a few steps from its historic spot on Corso Garibaldi, in the area between Brera and Moscova. The new space was completely renovated under the eye of Japanese architect and designer Ishiyama Yukio, resulting in an environment that is simple, welcoming, and aligned with the restaurant's essential, traditional style.
The kitchen is led by Chef Takimoto Takaaki, a graduate of cooking school who spent 17 years at the Michelin-starred Asai in Osaka, Japan, before bringing his expertise to Milan. His presence shapes the kitchen brigade and the menu.
Osaka's approach is rooted in the Japanese concept of omotenashi – a spirit of wholehearted hospitality. The aim is to make Japanese guests feel at home while also offering Italian diners a genuine taste of Japan. The menu goes well beyond sushi and sashimi, featuring classics like ramen, gyoza, sukiyaki, tempura, and karaage. A daily-changing special is always prepared with fresh ingredients. The restaurant offers lunch sets, an à la carte dinner menu, and takeaway options, alongside a curated wine and beverage list.
For its consistent quality and authentic Japanese cuisine, Osaka has earned a Michelin Recommended status, a recognition that underscores its place in Milan's dining landscape.
