The story
Trattoria della Fortuna has been a fixture in Monterotondo since its origins in 1944, when it began as a hunters' osteria. Over the decades, it evolved into a family-run trattoria that today holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its good quality, good value cooking. Here, seasonal Roman cuisine is rooted in tradition but open to innovation.
The story starts during the war, when the Osteria della Fortuna served hunters a glass of wine before their expeditions—a ritual for good luck. In 1950, the Allegrini family took over and transformed it into a trattoria, focusing on the classic dishes of Roman cuisine. For over 80 years, the restaurant has remained in the family. Signora Maria oversees the dining room, Signor Umberto runs the kitchen, and their daughter and granddaughter now carry the legacy forward, ensuring the same warmth and hospitality.
In the kitchen, executive chef Francesca Gervasi brings her own touch to Roman classics. She describes her cooking as “the best dishes of Roman cuisine, made a little my own, thanks to small innovations.” Her daily-changing menu relies on the finest seasonal ingredients, reflecting a deep respect for tradition while allowing for creativity.
The menu highlights the pillars of Roman cooking: carbonara, cacio e pepe, and amatriciana, often served as a trio of primi. Other signatures include rigatoni alla vaccinara, baccalà alla Russa, and crocchette di bollito alla puttanesca. A standout is the tortelli verdi, filled with ricotta and lemon. Each dish is prepared with care, using seasonal produce to enhance familiar flavours.
Trattoria della Fortuna is a place where the past and present come together on the plate, served in a welcoming atmosphere that keeps guests returning. Its Bib Gourmand recognition underscores the consistent quality and value that have made it a beloved destination for Roman cuisine.
