The story
“Pazzo chi joca e pazzo chi nun joca,” goes the Neapolitan saying—roughly, “Mad who plays and mad who doesn’t.” At Joca, that spirit of joyful risk-taking is the foundation. Opened in 2024 in the heart of Chiaia, this is a restaurant and tapas bar from chef Gianluca D’Agostino, a chef whose career has taken him through some of Europe’s finest kitchens—Locanda Locatelli in London, Alkimia and Coure in Barcelona, Don Alfonso 1890, and finally Veritas Restaurant in Naples, where he earned a Michelin star in 2016.
Here, D’Agostino brings his experience home. The dining room is vivid, contemporary, and welcoming—no dress code, no pretence, but a serious approach to what’s on the plate. The cuisine is modern Mediterranean, built on purity of flavour and respect for the raw ingredient, borrowing truth from memory.
The menu reads like a conversation between Naples and the wider world: a bonito tataky with orange dressing, fennel and olives; spaghetti with butter, escarole, colatura di alici and bergamot; a roasted pigeon with blueberries, carrots and horseradish. Two tasting menus offer a path through D’Agostino’s cooking—the five-course Joca Menu (€75) or the seven-course Crazy Menu (€100), both available with wine pairings. A tapas bar offers a more informal side of the same vision, with cocktails, champagne and a thoughtful wine list that balances natural labels with great traditional bottles.
Joca has already earned a place in the Michelin guide, a recommendation that speaks to the clarity of D’Agostino’s cooking and the coherence of the project. It is a restaurant that takes itself seriously—like children at play—in search of authentic experience and wonder.
